Board rules

These rules are disclosed to clarify the various responsibilities of all community members here on The British Metal Detecting Forum. They shall be adhered to by everyone to ensure that our board runs smoothly and provides a fun and productive experience for all of our community members and visitors.

  1. General Forum Rules

    1. Accounts: Each member is allowed one login account. Registering with multiple accounts is not allowed. Posting using more than one account will result in the banning of all your accounts. Creating a new user account to continue posting whilst on a temporary ban will result in a permanent ban for both the original and the new account. #
    2. Etiquette: Anyone being rude, abusive, calling names or generally trying to stir up trouble will not be tolerated. If you think someone is wrong it may be because they are new. Don't jump on them, think first. If you are repeatedly abusive you will be banned from these forums. Specific behaviour that will not be tolerated and will result in post removal / banning includes:

Flaming: Insulting, abusive, malicious, personal attacks.
Trolling: Deliberately antagonising other forum users by posting 'flame bait.'
Swearing: Using profanity (or changing characters to bypass our profanity filters) #
    3. Personal Attacks: These are usually caused by discussions turning into serious arguments as mentioned above. Please think before posting anything that would be defined as this sort of attack. For example "Username is an idiot" Personal attacks, including those in personal forum messages or emails, are not welcome on these forums and will be dealt with firmly. As the moderators do not have access to personal forum messages or emails any action would only be in response to a specific complaint by the recipient. #
    4. Locked Topics: Moderators or site admins may lock a topic (set it so no more replies may be added) when a violation of posting policy has occurred. Occasionally, even if there are no overt violations of posting policy, a topic (or thread) will reach a point where the information content of the discussion has been essentially exhausted and further replies are much more likely to cause distress to the community than add anything of value.

Topics are locked to give everyone a chance to cool down. Thus if a topic is locked, please do not start up another thread to continue the discussion, at least right away. Such follow-on threads may be deleted without warning. #
    5. Copyright Policy: This forum makes no claim to the ownership of original materials in posts or replies submitted by our members: ownership solely resides with the original author. However to ensure the smooth functioning of the forum, by submitting a post or reply to this forum you agree to grant certain rights to the forum and to other forum members. Furthermore you agree that in any case where original ownership rights conflicts with the granted rights, the granted right shall take precedence. The specific rights retained and granted by original authors are listed below.

Post authors (regardless of standing) retain the exclusive right to republish their original material in any medium or website outside the forum except where this right is limited by fair use and any applicable laws. In other words, no one can sell or reuse your words outside the BMD forum without your express permission. #
